You can win against candy but you better be prepared for a ton of bullshit and go in with an understanding that you may not be successful and it will mostly likely take a lot of time. Recommend setting boundaries and consequences ahead of time and understanding your limits and sticking to your plans to minimize the impact to your life. I also think, and I'm not intending to call out anyone here, offering them support in exchange for favors isn't helping them move forward (which I've heard too often); it's just putting them in to another dynamic where they're indebted or disadvantaged and not helping them make the decision to stop using. If you are serious about helping, you need to go in with no strings attached if you want to give them the best chance of making the right decision.
