I should have been more clear in what I mean — which is that an open carry state AND a high crime rate means there's just a lot of guns around, period, for better and worse. Again I don't think this is a good forum for debate on that, only to acknowledge the reality. Basically I assume people can be armed in MI, either on the person or at home, that doesn't mean everyone is, nor does it mean that I walk in fear; quite the contrary, and just for myself I don't carry, open or concealed, and am perfectly ok with that because I think the other skills — of reading people and situations, of knowing how to project oneself without prejudices and talk to people straight, that's more important.
