The question about what have you done in previous arrangements is a common way to broach the issue. I don't think it is relevant and say that. What did you pay for your last car? You seem to have more experience w / this than you post. I always defer allowance discussions as long as possible and make the girl go first. They will always have a lower ask. No one wants to be rejected to their face. I agree, negotiating isn't easy, you have to be close to the same page. At a recent M&G, the girl told me she was getting 3 K / mo from a stupid lawyer in LA.
