If you don't have a valid CPL, you shouldn't be carrying to a date or anywhere else. If you do have a valid CPL, you should already know the law.

You are afforded certain protections by the Self Defense Act, not the least of which is protection from civil liability. If you are committing a crime, you lose the protections.

If you are going somewhere that makes you contemplate whether to go armed, perhaps the best decisions is to not go there. It's not a bad idea to have your EDC in your car for your hour of shame.

Keep in mind, even in low risk situations, it extremely hard to maintain tight control of your weapon. I, for one, don't want my EDC in a pile of clothes on a chair. I don't want it seen when I drop my pants. I don't want it to fall to the floor etc
