New Year's Eve is Saturday, January 21 with Sunday being New Year's Day. Are they celebrating New Year's Eve by China's time, being 16 hours ahead?

16 hours ahead means that new year begins at 8 am Saturday 1/21/23 CA time. (Midnight in the Middle Kingdom). They could take off all Saturday morning and come in at noon, and celebrate for 4 hours with their husbands and kids in China at the appropriate time. So why did they take Friday off?
