I used to work with some Cambodian guys and their families ran many donut shops in the south end. The first gen Asians would look for affordable businesses to buy and operate when they first get to the USA and donut shops fit that bill. They have family members working there day and night so the labor costs are minimal. As long as the extended families lend a helping hand (they are culturally obligated to do it), they can remain profitable with smaller sales.

I see them open late night and I wonder if its a family business or chain. You think just how many donuts and coffee do they need to sell to make rent and a profit.
