Was talking to this one, Bri, and everything was going well until she got to "additional" screening requirements. I had already provided her exactly what she wanted as listed on her Private Delights ad which is references and verified reviews. She wanted a face pic of me and PII -- no way in hell.

I pointed out this is EXACTLY why I would never send my PII and / or pic to any provider, I have no control over what they do with it and who they send it to. She never seemed to get this point tho, and kept making the same argument of why I should send her a pic anyways 🙄.

How many times does a monger have to get ghosted after they sent a deposit before they realize what's going on?

I will never give a deposit, because they will rip you off. Why would anyone send a deposit to a complete stranger for a not so legal transaction? Also, their client's failure to show is probably because their posted price is too high and they found something better. Probably is just a guess.

After talking to one provider (whom I never met or will meet), their rationale for starting to ask for deposits or advance payments is because of the no-shows from the mongers. For example: a guy makes appointment for full hour at XXX amount. So she keeps that time plus additional time for pre- & post- clean up. That's time she could have "earned" money with other clients. Then guy doesn't show up and she loses money because of it. But like other businesses, requiring a deposit motivates the client to show up or at least call and cancel (allowing her to book another appointment. We see it with booking hotels, or flights to name a few.

To combat this, from our POV, we say thanks but no thanks and keep looking elsewhere. Like another previously said that if we cave into to this practice, it will become the norm. When it becomes the norm, there will be an increase of the ripoff queens giving fake addresses and keep your deposit (not to mention how much PII you just shared).

On the other hand, from their prospective, if you make an appointment, show up! At a minimum, contact them asap and cancel. Things happen that keeps us from showing up but letting them know keeps you in their good graces and they'll book you again. (This happened to me, booked with an AMP once giving my name and estimated time I'd arrive. Developed a stomach bug enroute. Bad food from street vendor, called and told them I needed to cancel. Called back the next day, they remembered my name and set appointment. When I arrived, was treated like an old friend with provider thanking me for courtesy of calling to cancel the previous day. Not just words, but their service and attitude made my time there memorable.).
