Another scam I've run into is not a deposit but a gift card. I contacted a provider a month or so ago (I forget which one, one of the ads that comes and goes), and they texted me the address to a hotel in the area. Then they texted that they wanted me to get the donation in the form of a gift card from CVS or somewhere. When I get to the hotel, they'll "verify" the card and then give me the room number. Needless to say (I hope), I recognized the scam. That "verification" would have been the number on the card that would allow them to cash it, and no room number would ever have arrived. Even experienced mongers reach out to fake ads. It's important to stay vigilant.

What Dom Draper said is good advice. "Divorced" is a red flag, as well as when they advertise that they do BBFS. Plenty of girls I know do BBFS, but none of them advertise it.
