If this happened you have all the right to claim identify theft amongst those in your life that may receive it. First they bluffing but I've always thought of this did happen from some random source just tell those around you someone is extorting you with fake information and identity theft. I can put together fake emails and text messages if I knew your name doesn't mean you sent it. Be strong and deny.

What do you mean any advice? If you know they don't have any info on you what are you spooked about? That's why these scammers know their targets, people who have stuff to lose and will bend over easily at the first sign of a threat.

This type of things pops up on these boards every couple months. There seem to be two common recommendations. One is to ignore the threat even if you are texted again. They will eventually disappear. I think this is the way to go. The other is to text back what A2 just wrote: "Extortion is a felony. If you contact me again, I will contact the police and press charges against you. " Personally, I would not make this move unless they keep pressing you. No matter what, do not send them any money. Enough people have received enough Spam over the years. Especially since that Adobe hack that has led to constant emails where people are told there is video evidence of them watching porn and they need to pay the spammer through bitcoin or risk being outed. My uncle is 95 and received that email. LOL. Anyway, if they did contact someone you know, you could tell those friends and family that yet another spammer is acting like a spammer and laugh it off.
