I doubt anyone or almost no one 'chooses' addiction. There are multiple interactive factors. Some people seem inherently more inclined towards compulsive behavior. For some it's a way of dealing with trauma or other difficult emotions. I doubt anyone wants to be controlled by compulsions.

If we're being honest, as BBFS seekers at least some of us are addicts, or at least it's at least a somewhat harmful compulsion. We're engaging in pleasurable, but risky behavior that produces a greater high than protected sex. I learned this first-hand when I contracted gonorrhea a couple years ago. While our compulsion might not result in the kind of obvious, gradual deterioration of substance abuse, that's mainly a difference of degree.

Honestly, I wish I didn't have these compulsions, and contracting an STI forced me to realize it's at least somewhat of a problem, which is why I haven't partaken for several months and have no plans to resume.

I think the majority of us on here have sort of a sex addiction. I don't do BB, but I think people that do it with risky individuals do it because it's part of their sex addiction. When my SO and I broke up, my biggest concern was how was I going to get laid regularly. Within a month, between SA, WYP and trolling bars, I was getting laid at least 4 days / week by various people. You'd think I would be satisfied, but then I went to Costa Rica and was doing 3-4 a day, for 12 days straight. I slowed down a little and now I still get laid about twice a week, but feel like it's not enough and I'm constantly looking for something new. I know that's not normal behavior. An STI many years ago turned me off to BB, but I never slowed down for a second sex-wise.

There are a lot of people who end up there just by being someone who was legally prescribed opiates for a medical condition and become addicted to it. Obviously not everyone is in this situation but it's surprisingly more common than you would think.

I have watched family and friends kill themselves due to addiction. It's brutal to watch. Any sign of addiction I stay away.
