I like and use Google Voice too. For my 2nd number. There is one downside, when I have provided that 2nd number to use for verification on some websites, they say that number not allowed. Seems like some sites know it's a virtual number and impossible to track.

I've used google voice (voice. google.com) forever. Calls are not metered, texting is reliable. And you can use a PC as well, to do both in addition to your mobile device. Couple of downsides are (1) its run / monitored / supported by GOOGLE, so its not secure. But what digital stuff is these days. Nobody has complete privacy, and. I have done a video call in the past just to get a room number but have never sent a actual picture. I guess they could screen shot your call while in progress but you would know if they did.
