I will give me opinion on this subject. I have become a regular at some spa's over the years and got to know some of the girls. They work to take care of themselves and their family who raises their child. They also live in cities that are expensive to reside and have a pretty good lifestyle. They don't plan on doing this forever, some end up doing something else when they get older. They buy a shop or a business with the money they made. I don't know why they all do it or how they got into it, but it's their choice. They are able to come and go. I'm genuinely not sure. I go to work, not because I want to, but because I need the money. Knowing I need to have a job to get money, I want one that pays the best of my options. I don't think these women are any different and many have limited English proficiency which can be constraining. They could work in a Chinese restaurant and make shit wages or maybe they are willing to accept "spa work. " I won't claim to understand what makes women tick, I can't figure it out myself, but I do know they like money. It's not limited to Chinese women either. The girls at our favorite Mesa spas likely make enough in one day to match a month of work in much of China. You don't know what they may be sending home. Your tips may be supporting the entire family. Don't forget, China has no real social safety net, no money, you may just starve.
