Armchair psychology here now, but I think that for most of these girls, they have a subconscious struggle with wanting a "normal" life and having that jive with how much money they make (or can make). Couple that with the fact that most of them have overstayed their visa and are now illegal immigrants with few-to-no legal ways to make money, and they're going to feel stuck / desperate. So they are understandably very self-centered (not necessarily selfish), but also are still human beings who want some sort of "normal" life, even if it's just a dream.
