In the study of economics, luxury items have extremely high price elasticity, meaning demand for them drops substantially during economically lean times. Mercedes Benz, BMW, and similar brands are considered luxury, but there is a reason they choose to put some of their luxury goods within the purchasing range of the middle class and a reason we see so many of them on the road (not just the "1% That is because they know that the fact they can sell an occasional six-figure car in one economy doesn't mean they will still be able to a few months later, and overall they will be able to weather storms better if they know how to produce more units of cars that can be sold at some reasonable volume rather than a few units of mega-priced vehicles.

Personally I don't think most SDs are in the 1%, and are not independently wealthy by the pure definition, at least that's been my impression from the stories I hear from the girls I've known. In general, when a SB starts adding rules, she is making a move to control the situation because she thinks she can. You need to shut that down in a hurry.
