I really tried to love it. I came up here because of a friend. I know I sounded a bit harsh, but this city just tires me out, and being a hobbyist can be frustrating sometimes, especially compared to where I came from just before Portland, man was I spoiled for choice and service, I guess. Everything here is pretty pricey, which wouldn't be bad if the quality matched, but it doesn't. Again, I do love the food though, and yeah not really staying long if I can help it.

Do it if you can. Even without hobbying, it's a worthwhile life experience, and if you plan well it doesn't have to be expensive. If you plan to include hobbying too, and make sure to think with the big head, you're find it really hard to come back. Like you, I've traveled all over. Just bought my first condo in Sarasota the other day so I can spend a good percent of my time outside of Oregon. Florida is really great for providers: better looking, 30-50% less cost, much friendly, easy to find BBFS, BBBJ, cim, Greek, etc. I have a few regulars here, but I don't really like to get too close to providers because I have a lot to lose with the risk of getting outted if one of them goes loony, which is always a possibility.

I've lived min 6 months in a lot of places, including UK, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Germany, Caribbean, a few choice places in Brazil, and all over the US, mostly bigger cities (Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Tampa), and Portland absolutely takes the cake.
