Good discussion here. I'd like to know more about your actual experiences being stopped by Milwaukee 5-O for driving & SW mongering. Any of you actually been arrested for it? In over 20 years of regular mongering in numerous cities I have been stopped 3 times, once in Milwaukee, Madison (long ago when there was a minor SW scene there) & Minneapolis. In all cases I was harassed & sent on my way. Once on Greenfield a gal was pulling my passenger door handle to open it & a cop appeared & showed his badge & detained her. I waited for him to talk to me, but he never did so I just drove off.

I picked up this cute little black junkie. She had a great body and a bad wig. She started tweaking in my car, and so I just wanted to get rid of her. "Drive me up to So and So," so I did. I turned a block too soon, and she freaked "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" Jesus, calm down. I was one block off. "Go through the alley!" I take a quick left, zip up the alley, so now I'm a half a block from the house she want's to go to. Cherries and berries in the rear view. "License, registration and insurance please. " ME: "Why was I stopped, officer?" "We saw you go through the alley. " Since when the fuck did driving through an alley become probable cause? Anyway the tweaker is freaking out, so now they have reason to question her. Turns out she has a warrant, so she gets carted off. "Sir, you were associating with a known prostitute. " I got let go, but I didn't like it.

It's 9:00 pm. I turn off Lisbon on one of the numbered streets, head north for a block, then east. The girl I had met that afternoon, (when I couldn't hook up) was waiting for me on the corner. She barely gets to my car, an it's 4th of July in my rear view. An unmarked had followed me off Lisbon. The hooker was a hearing-impaired black babe, so she was out babbling with the police. I don't know what she told them, but I had a yellow note pad on the seat next to me where we had "conversed" earlier in the day. A cop from the second car (fuck! They sent two more after the unmarked), comes and gets the pad. Fortunately, there was nothing sexual on it. Just shit like "How long you been doing this?" and "How old are you?" Innocent conversation crap. The cop comes back and pitches the notepad at me and says, "You can get going. You'll get your ticket in the mail. " (Cop humor?

This is as close as I've come, and I didn't like it either time. I'm surprised they stopped me when they did. If I were a cop in an unmarked, wouldn't it make more sense to let the hooker get in and maybe catch the dirty ol' man in the act? Anyway, I'm glad they didn't think of it that night.

That and the fact that cops in general will often take the "low-hanging fruit" of an easy bust, for example writing a citation "if you don't like it; take it to court". Sure: they want to clean up "real" crime, but the "broken windows" theory of law enforcement is to bust the small players in the hopes that some of the bigger stuff is prevented.

I don't think most of the cops care, obviously there are going to be cops who share an affinity for the Vice, they have a job to do. There's a political game that they caught Up in, and just like they have quotas for traffic / speeding tickets, I'm sure there's an incentive for them to police crime's like these, and as you said, they'll get who they can when they can. I'm just here for the articles because there's too much on the line, to take chances.

Unless you are willing to go in front of a jury and spend thousands. You may lessen your chances, but You absolutely are not safe.

This is a different reason but a few summers ago I got pulled over at the kwik trip at 51st in Rawson by a state trooper for running a red light turning left and I know I did not and laughed at the cop while he's giving me a ticket and long story short I took it all the way to just before the jury was going to be called in and the prosecutor dropped all the charges in the meantime I had my name on the website and in the paper and had to spend a bunch of time going to court 3 separate times.

All this talk and opinion, do's and donts, rights and wrongs. Truer words have never been spoken. " if they want you, they will get you. " Plain & simple. Just my 2 cents.

Actually, Ray's advice was sound, but yours is terrible. All one has to do to accurately discern the situation is observe the sheer volume of transactions occurring in the South Loop, and rest easy knowing you can cruise and cruise, solicit and solicit, with impunity, as long as you don't offer or accept an offer from an undercover officer. Watching hundreds of Johns picking up hundreds of hookers in a few-hour span on Greenfield avenue alone will cure the paranoia you are expressing.

Political groups and forums become infiltrated by folks pretending to be one of them, but who work to beat down the spirits of the members and discourage them from activism. Likewise, a forum like this can be infiltrated by folks who try to discourage us. Well, you can forget about it, because I and other real johns will always be here to advocate for our passion, and set the malleable minds straight. Straight on the path to whoremongering, that is!

Free cameras, police, and all of this other scary talk. It's all rubbish. The police are out there looking for violent criminals and drug dealers. They don't give a shit about hookers and johns. I pick girls up right in front of police. I drive around for hours at a time with impunity.

You forgot the "except for probable cause". They've issue hundreds of tickets a night in West Allis for cruising Hwy 100 between 8 pm and 5 am for decades and the 4th Amendment doesn't protect them either. I think more importantly for someone being stopped is to have a logical reason for driving around and being in that area. The last time I was pulled over (with a SW in my car) it was on the way back to drop off. Many years ago. Told them she asked for a ride at a gas station I was at and I was dropping her off. Told her to say the same thing after we were stopped and before they separated us for questioning. An hour later got off with a warning that my name and license plate was going to be entered in "the book" (whatever that is). Most anxious hour I've ever had. A detective along with two other squad cars joined in to assist the officer that pulled me over. Had a come to Jesus moment and swore to myself I'll never do that again if I got off and I haven't since. Didn't do a damn thing wrong either. Cop just noticed us pulling through an intersection while he was parked at a red light. Must have recognized her. Thought for sure I was going to jail.

Same here. I got rousted walking up to door of an escorts location in the South Loop. Questioned and badgered me for an hour. Thankfully I had a marginally plausible cover story. They knew I bullshitting but couldn't prove it. They told ne neighbors had been complaining about the traffic levels in and out of the house. I probably could have beat it or pled out in court, but just being taken in would have had catastrophic effects on my home life, friends, employment and side business.

The legal costs will be more than the fine and you will end up pleading to a lesser violation so you still end up with a fine, attorney, and prosecution costs. In the meantime you've been arrested and had to post bail, had your car impounded and paid for that to be released. You're looking at 5 k or more in costs. Where in the constitution does it say you can drive around known prostitution areas in Milwaukee chatting up known prostitutes? I was just trying to make the point that you don't even have to talk to a prostitute to get arrested in Milwaukee. And if you do get pulled over with one in your car I can guarantee she's going to sing like a bird. They get treated like victims you know.

What's worked for me is a bit different. They come over to my vehicle & try to open the passenger door but it'll be locked. I drop the window about 5 inches & ask their name & they always give one. This brief encounter lets me know if I want to let them in or not.

Oh jeez, I forgot to mention the window test! The window test is important. Yes I ask their name. It buys you a couple seconds to screen if she is worth receiving my seed. If she has no teeth or has a deep voice, I say "Uh oops I thought you were someone else" and drive off. They usually get mad when I do that.

I agree with you. The only one that's really questionable on my mind (but I'm not a lawyer and don't even play one on TV) is 2 A. There's some pretty easy ways to cover why you're in a particular area for a while, however it sure does give them an excuse to roust you. As you mentioned better have a good story ready. Over and above the financial costs you mentioned there are social implications for some of us as well, family, friends, employers. The only thing I'm doubtful on is how many tickets are issued to mongers each week. Personally I think the number is pretty low unless there's an active sting going on.

Exactly! Local ordinances in any city or village are a joke, not prosecutable. Whenever a person of normal intellect presents as believing in ordinances as opposed to what their eyes and ears observe right in front of them, I do questions his or her sincerity. Such presentation reeks of an agenda.
