All companies have prepaid today. Verizon ATT T-Mobile Metro. You don't give them anything. I got a TJ prepaid travel phone once from Verizon and they didn't even ask me a name, just for a pin and desired area code. You can port your original number but it will take a few days from a cheap company like tracfone. I would just get a new number and text everyone before you stop paying it or change it. If you can't text anymore from your tracfone if will suck for you.

I used google voice before too. Most text apps will do.
