Keep in mind in the medical field anything more than 1% is considered high risk. This all said, this is a higher risk hobby, HIV isn't the only STD out there. I am a fan of BB as well so always be as careful as you can and understand your risks before you take them.

Think the caveat is that with the HIV drugs, you can get to a level where you can't transmit to someone else.

You're wrong. Use of the anti-retroviral drugs for prevention is known as PrEP and it's not that uncommon. I don't know a lot about it, but as I recall, the dose for prevention is less than the dose for treatment. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-exposure_prophylaxis.
