Yeah I also avoid shady areas / apartment buildings but still when some thieves plan is to rip off people they do it no matter what. I've yet to have this happen at someone place I also like many of the guys said already, stay away from shady places. I also have a rule with any new meet that its never at a hotel room I didn't buy myself. If they insist they have a place I always say I'm more comfortable in a neutral spot so I can pick them up.
