You are correct in the assumption that a viewee can't tell who's viewing them. But what happens is your profile will show up as someone they might know as they scroll through their page. I looked up an old flame to show a pic of her to a friend. When I tried to do the thing a few days later I was blocked. My son explained that I showed up on her page as symk and there was no other connection so it tipped her off that I was looking at her page. It was good info to have either way be careful.

Ever heard of something called "optimism bias"? It basically just means when we choose to look at the possible bright side without acknowledging any negative possibilities.
For example; someone who smokes cigarettes knows there's a good chance they will suffer severe health consequences "eventually", but they don't acknowledge that, instead they say, well I've been smoking for 20 years and I'm 40 now and nothing bad has happened yet! So I'm probably good.

Has anyone seen her recently.
