Police will also do this in a sting operation. They will ask what car are you driving, can you bring them something specific like Blantons Bourbon, and a small sushi dish. You show up and of course the police can't find anything on your personal phone because you have been using a hobby phone, but the specific things you brought, and the type of car you are driving removes reasonable doubt of what your intent was.

That being said, I have no problem bringing "gifts" to established reviewed providers if I have time. It seems to relax everyone and gets things going in a friendly manner.
