Because it's for sure a scam. Do not fall for this! I suspect they've found a way to get cash from the eBay card. They can purchase something on eBay with it and then turn around and sell it.

I know it is a scam but I am very curious about how it works. I have heard some stories of them asking for a picture of the card as proof but that doesn't seem very reliable.

Anything other than cash is a scam. Come on. Deposits are mostly scams, even from a reputable provider. If they ask for cards, online payments, just tell them to go fuck themselves. Most likely it's a guy on the other end.
