The card is a Mastercard debit card issued by Peoples United Bank. Who would be best to contact?

My last email said I am sick of the run-around and if my card is not credited for $80 charge I will contact the Better Business Bureau, Connecticut Health Department for sheet in backseat, write several negative reviews, and stop using Lyft. Further, as a middle aged white man I believe there was racism exhibited by the black driver due to my perceived white privilege and being a white supremacist. I will contact the appropriate Connecticut and Federal agencies.

I would think would react to this email, but who knows.
The BBB is a private organization and is of no help. Take your claim to the CT Consumer Protection Agency or whatever name they're using. At least your claim will be registered. Follow up in writing.

That would depend on People's Bank. Debit cards don't offer the same Federal protections as credit cards. Some banks choose to offer them, but not all.

I agree with the credit card dispute angle. I've don't plenty with AMEX, MC, and Visa, never an issue.
Agreed on the credit card stop payment.

Drivers are considered self employed. Any expenses incurred while working are deductible. The driver is scamming a passenger.

The seat with the stain is either the drivers seat or the seat behind the driver because the seat belt receptacles are located in the center or interior of the car. Can't tell if it's the driver's seat or the one behind him. It looks like a whole cup or mug of something got dumped!
Maybe the driver was taking a left turn on 2 wheels?!

The driver can get it cleaned and its a tax deductible expense. He’s not an employee, he’s self employed and should be filing Schedule C. He’s looking for bonus bucks from you.

I would inform Lyft that you expect them to refund the $80 and will give them a chance to do so before posting your reviews of them, contacting the BBB and taking your business - which, they should know, is now considerable - to Uber or some other rideshare. If not satisfied, I'd take it to the corporate office, telling them that this is an affront and you demand satisfaction. Now that you think about it, it seems like discrimination, as you were targeted for this payment because you are (pick one or more) old, overweight, young, bald, infirmed, a veteran, a Trump supporter, a Biden supporter, a Bernie supporter, of a minority group, homosexual, etc. If you make a stink, it quickly becomes easier for them to send you your 80 just to be done with it.
Agreed and I would do it in writing and cc all parties and any related state regulatory agencies. A voice on the phone will get misplaced, lost, or deleted. You can bet on that. Demand that driver gets fired and you get x number of free rides. Ideally, if you have a lawyer friend, put the letter on his / her paper letterhead and send it certified with return receipt. You'll get their attention. They may also kiss your ass as a bonus!

Could really use your help. Yesterday morning took a Lyft ride to work while my car is being repaired. The driver picks me up in a Honda Civic with a sheet covering the back seat. At 6'2, 230, needless to say I had a very difficult time getting into backseat. I had to put my head and upper torso in first, than my legs. While getting in, my hands slipped on sheet that moved and I spilled some coffee. I said I was sorry and driver said "don't worry about it, just wash sheet".

Later that day I get a notice from Lyft Safety Group with attached pics-see below- and told my debit card has been charged $80!

No way that spilled coffee caused the stain on upholstery-look closer and you can see a reddish hue from most likely red wine and the spot was attempted to be cleaned already.

Why would driver take a picture of the stain after it was cleaned and not before?

Also, why was a sheet on back seat? Most likely to cover previous stains including the one he sent to Lyft.

Bottom line is driver is pulling a scam and Lyft is backing him up and will not reduce the $80 charge. The sheet moving is what caused me to spill the coffee. Why was a gross, used sheet in back seat in first place?

Finally, coffee stains according to Google are easily removed with dish soap, vinegar, and hot water. Coffee would not leave that stain on upholstery upon cleaning which is why you see a reddish tint upon zooming because it wasn't coffee!

Any help to get my $80 back is greatly appreciated. Bonus points-can anyone figure out if pic of stain is on passenger or driver side of backseat?

The stain is on the driver side, the seat clips into the buckle in the middle of the bench seat. Is there anyway to contact your CC company and dispute the charge?

    Stay safe,

    PA.
