You just a tool like freecarrierlookup.com. If the number isn't from tmobile, att, sprint, verizon then it's probably a burner. You'll usually see bandwidth.com for GV. There are other wholesalers who do some of the other apps.

Sounds like you're being appropriately cautious. I stay far, far away from any chick that wants to bring a friend. If she concerned about her safety she should meet you in a public place first.
