Interesting perspective here. Goes to show that the perception of danger is both relative and subjective. On my visits I also was not worried about losing my life. At the same time I was observant and aware of my surroundings.

You can be robbed anywhere including while sitting in the comfort of your own home. If I'm ever robbed on a visit what they'll get from me is petty cash and worn out tennis shoes. Maybe a sock with a hole in it. I don't wear or carry anything of value with me.
