In my experience this does happen fairly often. They want to see that your not a cop, pimp, creep trying to find out where they are and actually a dude who just showed up dick in hand. Its definately a security thing. It ofcourse could lead to their pimp breaking into your car during the deed though. I generally will not give my car info to a provider though personally, I certainly have once or twice and it has been fine but generally do not out of parania.
