I'm far from a radical leftist -- in fact I'm a retired Air Force officer, but let me offer another perspective of the issue.

In Great Britain, they have largely eliminated unlicensed guns from the general population. You can own a gun, and several of my relatives do, but it must be identified, registered, and controlled by the owner. And yes, they also have crazies running around, but due to the lack of readily available guns, they generally attack with knives, sometimes wounding one or two people before they are subdued. Here on the other hand, a deranged person can easily kill a dozen or more people in a matter of seconds. As their acts are generally erratic at best, there is no way to tell where the next one will strike. I do no wish for me or my family to in the next mass shooting.

The Second Amendment supporters will tell you loud and clear that it says." The right to keep and bear arms. " while completely ignoring the first part about ". A well-regulated militia. " We have a well-regulated militia in the Reserves and the National Guard. You are free to join them.

That being said, I have an alternative plan that protects your right to own as many guns as you want, while increasing the safety of the public. We need to have every legal gun in this country registered my its owner who will then become responsible for its security and care. Anyone then found with an unregistered gun, whether in the process of committing a crime or not will have the gun confiscated and destroyed. If in fact the gun was being used in a crime, the punishments must be severe. Severe enough to seriously make one think twice before using one. This will take some time to percolate through society but the end result is well worth the effort.

The Second Amendment never envisioned weapons that could expend hundreds of rounds a minute. It was poorly written in the first place. It is long past time for revision.

I hope that happens before a member of my family, or yours, is needlessly killed by a person wielding a weapon that has no legitimate place in a peaceful society.

I actually hate how things are in the UK, I'm terrified of being stabbed up. "shanked" as they call it out there. The type of violet crimes they have are heinous and nasty. There are also people who make guns from scratch in the UK, called a "one pop. ".

I understand your thought here, but the protocol is that there is only one VP at a time, so all the others should be called "former VP. " Conversely, there are lots of Senators (100 to be exact) and therefore it doesn't cause any confusion to drop the "former" from a former Senator's title. But I live to make you guys happy. I will call him former VP, former Senator or just Senator as you desire. Personally, I find that any title that doesn't include the word "former" to be preferable.

Actually, protocol says, any former elected official can and should be called by their highest position for the rest of their life, similar for retired military. They go by the rank they retired at. So you will hear reported interviewing former Presidents and call them Mr. President. I remember a reporter asking Sell Miller whether he wanted to be called Governor or Senator because one is not necessarily higher than the other.
