Senior members have more status because they have been in the forum more than six months and have we least thirty posts. It's a good metric for other members to judge their peers, and for the moderator to allow certain priviliges, like posting without a wait period before publication. I think it's a fair and rational system, but you cannot always judge a book by its cover. I know for a fact that several senior members are providers posing as hobbyists in order to spread disinformation, both about themselves and their competition. Likewise, you can't automatically judge mongers by their status. Some senior members don't have much experience, and some regular members have been senior members several times in the past but have started over in order to change their identity. All in all, though, it is a good place to start when judging others, and I'm sure it's helpful for A2 when weeding out trolls.
