I completely agree! However the indictment of Steve Bannon is a reminder that the Republicans have everything to lose this November if they lose the presidency and their Senate majority.

There are so many Republicans who have sailed too close to the wind. If they fall into the minority in Washington, they not only immediately lose much of their power and access to corrupt wealth: they also lose their insulation from investigation, potential indictment, prosecution, disgrace: and, potentially, prison time.

That's why they're prepared to shred the constitution down to confetti to cling to power. They have everything to lose. The corruption is deep in their marrow. They will fight brutally, to the bitter end.

The pragmatist in me hopes, though, that if the Democrats to return to power, they don't waste it going after the fallen GOP. That's as bad as "but her emails!" or "Bengazi!

I'd like the to actually focus on getting America fixed and competitive again.

I worry, because so much of the premise of Democratic voting is less voting *for* Biden & company than it is voting *against* Trump. I hope they don't blow their four years just getting revenge.

We need practical leadership, not vindictiveness. We've already had four pointless years of that!

I honestly believe nobody with a moral compass and basic sense of decency is willing to grab a nice paycheck by working for Trump. I've had job offers before with nice paychecks but either refused the offer or quit after a couple months because I didn't like the inept and scummy leadership at the company. Dumb and corrupt leadership quickly trickles down to every employee and it creates a very toxic atmosphere.

Trump can only get shady criminals to work for him because that's how he has done business his entire life. Just wait until the Michael Cohen book comes out. Bannon undoubtedly knows a lot of stuff that Trump would prefer to keep secret. Like contacts with the Russians in 2016, the infamous pee tapes. Would he trade some of that knowledge for, say, a $500,000 fine instead of 5 years in Club Fed?

Given his previous party boy history, I find that much more believable than the tape. Wow, my how quickly this thread has become politicized. It's like the politics "debate" thread or something now.

I see everyone going hardcore for their elephants and donkeys, but the most important thing is being missed.

What's best for our country? The labeling and other foolishness just gets in the way. I have no political affiliation or hard leaning, I just want the "best" man for the job.

At the present state of our nation, work needs to be done.

This is the right attitude! End of the day, there are problems in need of solutions; the role of the public servant should be to fix those problems. None of the "culture war" nonsense.

I feel reasonably confident we'll have a viable vaccine, maybe early 2021. What we need is competent management of delivery of the vaccine; the pandemic becomes a logistics issue as soon as a vaccine exists. A point organization (NIH or CDC) needs to be tapped to head it up, and then provided with the resources needed to do so. If it requires a metric fuckton of money, so be it.

2) are we going to wrap this up with NK, or are we just going to let them keep building and stockpiling?

The smart play with NK is simply to cooperate with them. They're tiny, and pretty much confined within their own borders. We need to understand that only one thing matters in NK, and that's the preservation of the ruling family. That's it. Aside from that, containing their cybercrime activities. My two cents. NK isn't really important.

Well, there's no simple answer to this. The fact is, there are better democratic voting systems than the one we have, but we're stuck with this one.

YES. This should be one of the top issues in American discourse. THIS is the thing to throw a trillion dollars at. I spend a lot of time abroad (well, when there's not a pandemic), and I'm always shocked at just how much cleaner and shinier other countries are, with everything functioning. There are places in the USA which feel like a 3rd world country.

I could go on at length about this. I have a client, a major Asian public-private tobacco company, which is exploring moving into cannabis, and they hired my research firm to explore the global regulatory environment and how its changing. Basically, the USA is obligated by UN treaty arrangements to NOT legalize cannabis, even to the point of rescheduling it so it can be studied clinically. There's just too much utility in keeping it illegal in terms of social control and using it as a tool to fight organized crime. Russia is the main force behind keeping it illegal globally, and closely watches what's happening with cannabis in the USA. It will be a LONG time, if ever, before the USA decriminalizes or legalizes cannabis at the Federal level.

Fun fact: Jamaica is one the the strongest *opponents* of cannabis legalization.

The West (specifically Great Britain) created the mess with Sykes-Picot (1916) and the Ottoman Partition (1922).
