The scene is indeed terrible. The problem is that the vast majority of providers aren't real escorts / courtesans. A real escort is supposed to play up to your fantasies. They're supposed to learn about what you want and desire and market that to you in return for a donation.

Most of the providers are sadly hard core drug addicts whose only concern is to get your money so they can go get high.
