My 6 mill was just in the US. I think that is going to be unacceptable to the majority. I have gone back and forth w / many people about the vaccine on this site. It might work well, but even if not perfect it will help suppress the spread. However, it won't come soon. There are lots of things people are trying, but 93% of vaccines that enter clinical trials don't get approved. If the first one, that is already in clinicals in Seattle, worked, it would definitely be a lucky longshot. There is troubling data that some who have recovered have gotten reinfected. If having the disease doesn't confer immunity, at least for a while, a vaccine has a huge hurdle. Drugs. I think the Gilead compound looks promising, and put my $ where my mouth is

Population of the USA is 333 million. If it reaches your 6 million that's still under 2% and not thinning the herd. I've lived through the polio epidemic and everything else since so I'm an old fuck and have never been seen anything do this to the country. There are still virus out there that they still haven't come up with a vaccine for so don't be surprised if it doesn't happen with this one.

Also sorry but not everyone lives to a ripe old age and most that do are taking a handful of pills and a visit to a different doctor every other day. So it's a fact of life people die and your on that course from the day your born. Numbers can be thrown out or jiggled anyway you want and the USA is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world so yeah the death rate is going to be higher, that's natural. It's a virus so if they happen to find a vaccine is it going to be as effective as the flu vaccine LOL. You're both too pessimistic and too optimistic. The first point of delaying spread is just to keep the burden on hospitals reasonable. If we all wanted to have what NY is experiencing, business as usual is the way to go. Sweden is doing this, and it has 10-20 x the infection rate. The second point of delaying spread is to hopefully have some weapons when people become newly infected. What you prescribe would result in something like 6 million dead. Anyone you'd like to nominate to live or die? That's the situation we're trying to avoid. Seems like it's possible. Look at the graphs of progression in other countries. They're keeping their people from dying. South Korea had their first death the same day as the US. Their total now is 222.

I know this would blow up in my face if I went through with it, but it did occur to me after qualifying for PPP for my business.

I have about $8 k a month in payroll that isn't coming back, even after I give myself a whopping raise and thought about putting a trusted SB on my company payroll.

I know -- would open me up to a lawsuit or blackmail, but how fun it is to think about the government paying for 8 weeks of action?
