I would also ignore them. If they persist, I would threaten them. This type of extortion is a federal crime and they would be fucked for the rest of their lives.

No one goes away once you pay, because now they know you'll pay. The odds of them coming to your house or your job are nearly nil. Tell them to go fuck themselves. And if they want to come by your house, that's fine too. Call the cops or handle matters another way.
