Can't disagree there. I've paid up front a few times with some LC providers and every time I do it I get uneasy. You are just opening the door for something to go wrong. I've been lucky but I usually don't see anyone who I haven't seen a lot of good reviews for, or someone that a senior member sent me to.

I do my best to minimize the chances of a rip off, but I know I'm never totally safe from it. If you have to see a provider that requires payment up front and you don't think there's any way around it, go for a QV. You can always request more time for round two. If you get ripped off, at least you didn't pay for a hr. I don't see any people who have no reviews, if I ever will, I won't pay up front. I also never tip when they've asked for it up front, obviously not with the initial payment and not on my way out, either. Me paying up front is tip enough.

You're never totally safe, but that's how I minimize the potential damage in the rare instances where this has come up for me.
