In my experience it's been all over the board. I've usually found those asking for that are usually working with an agency / booker. Now that doesn't mean it also couldn't be sketchy as shit in terms of blackmail or law enforcement. Some also ask for an email from your work address to an "innocuous" email account for verification. Fuck that. There was an agency busted in the Seattle area that caught a bunch of tech workers and execs because they used their work email. Anyone that asks that I just skip over as it's not usually worth the hassle.
