Because you need to take some for the team. People are more likely to reply if you have the same interest and you can compare notes past and future.

I am curious what percentage response rate you would find acceptable for a site to be considered "helpful and active". 50%? 75%? 100%?

The problem usually is they have to use points to respond. I have gotten requests for info and will respond if I have PM privileges but not about to spend valuable points when I don't.

Best if you don't hear back then just figure they don't have PM privileges. If you must have the info then unlock there PM and hope there not an ahole.
