So 50% of that is quite a lot considering there are many more options available.

Some bookers / agencies will ask for a fee in addition to the base rate, but they'll always make it clear what it is is upfront. Otherwise, the booking fee is simply a portion of the agreeded rate (1400 hour = 1200 base + 200 fee) paid in full when you meet. Regardless if she's a pornstar, any provider asking for 50% before you meet is most likely a scam artist.

Also, specific to pornstar providers, you can avoid a booking fee if you deal directly with them (but as you've experienced this has its own pitfalls and challenges). Some guys are able to track them down safely on social media. Others will book through their agency, take the $ hit and get her direct number for future discounted bookings. Good luck.

I wouldn't do it. I've seen many pornstars and never had to put down a deposit although I always have references. Just too risky imo.
