Posts: 1755That would be the best solution but I don't see it happening anytime soon. It's true that we are a large user group but we also don't pay them any money therefore we don't have any leverage. I'm afraid that if we want to document the service quality of these 3-letter providers, we'll have to do it ourselves.

Seems like they could just change the search function to make a 3 letter search work. They probably use a caned program but as a large customer they should surly request that simple change. Words like Ena or Jul aren't going to overload the results.

I just read that a provider changed her name to Ena. As we all know, the search function doesn't work with three letter names, so here's a workaround proposal: When we write about a Mia or an Ida or an Ena, double the name somewhere in the report or in the title so that it reads MiaMia, IdaIda or EnaEna and Voila, it's now a 6-letter name and SEARCHABLE! We can't do anything about the old reports but if we all started reviewing 3-letter providers in this manner, they would no longer be able to hide behind the 3-letter rule. I just ran a test and it works great.

Posts: 83Through your browser metadata. This is information your browser passes to the web site you are visiting. It includes items such as your public IP address, device (iOS), plug ins, service provider, etc, which can be cross referenced with metadata furnished to other web sites you have visited. For example if your IP visited STG and also XYZ.com on the same day, 5 minutes later, etc. A pattern can be built up. LE *could* subpoena your service provider's access logs to get your account information. Marketers can target market you.

You can see what this looks like by visiting a site such as http://webkay.robinlinus.com/ or just google "browser metadata and pick your own. Then use a VPN and visit the same site and see that the data is anonymized.
Use a VPN always. I use NordVPN on all my devices; notebook, phones, FireTV, etc. Nord gives you multiple connections (5?) at one cost. There are a variety of VPNs, this is not a specific endorsement.
Cookie security would be the realm of your antivirus software.

Posts: 99While I don't disagree that they sell data they get. I've never logged into anything on STG. I browse the ads and contact providers that have phone numbers.

STG makes money by selling your data. When you sign on, you have to allow cookies and give them other right to gain entrance to the playground. Win10 has Security Tuesday. They update the OS for vulnerabilities, and patch them. I am not a defacto security expert, but I would guess it has something to do with STG using the vulnerabilities. I would also think, a VPN really does not protect anymore, STG probably reads your Net device code, and thru all info out there, can piece together a pretty good puzzle of the user. I would like a defacto expert to chime in. STG is basically selling your info and I'd. Anyone agree?

When we add links after-the-fact, they don't become "hot" or "clickable". That's because we're actually using a different editor then the one we originally posted with. It doesn't recognize the text as a link. If you add a link after-the-fact, you have to enclose the link with URL delimiters to make it "hot", as I did in your quote.

Its back (10 pm EDT). About half the time I get a 503 back end error. Can't just 'refresh' page, have to go back one page and reload. General search working ok. (I'm going in thru an 'international' vpn conn).

Unlike before, it seems to be completely down. Haven't been able to go on there for at least two hours and no refresh or cleared browser make any difference.
