This happened to me back when backpage and the other escort sites went down. I saw a what I thought was a promising add and responded through email with my phone number and "call me". I know I'm an idiot no burner phone. The next day I get a text "hey". When I responded with who's this they say I know all about you and I'll expose you to your friends and family that you pay for sex. They wanted $500 they even had my real first and last name. Unfortunately for them they got my location wrong by about 100 miles. I ignored it and never heard from them again total scam.

He probably texted a number from an ad that was fake, and just set up for the purpose of collecting numbers in an attempt to extort them. I doubt they'll actually follow up on it (and hopefully he used a burner number for contacting questionable ads to begin with).
