A burner / hobby phone only makes it more difficult for LE not impossible. There is an extensive digital footprint you leave behind and while I agree it is extremely unlikely, LE might be willing to go through the legal hoops of subpoenaing such information or worse yet obtaining the information illegally from friends in high places and then dealing with you outside of the legal system. I would not want to put myself in either situation just to get back at someone over a few measly bucks.

Yes, I've done that before and even debated taking it to the next level where the bogus outcall is to the home address of a known vice detective.
