Why, are you going to argue the legalities from the back seat of a cruiser? The whole point is to not get put in the back of the car to begin with.

Agree that thorough paranoia is the way to go. Keep the effort needed to nail you way above what the civil servants are willing to do.

Here's a likely scenario- if you have your phone and you've texted the provider from it to make the appointment and you have it on you or in your car when you're being detained all Uncle LEO has to do is call that number that was used to make the appointment and watch the phone he's already confiscated. If that phone rings, you're done. The text record, which they can then subpoena with a warrant because the phone ringing is probable cause to believe that you were the one that sent those texts, will put things beyond a reasonable doubt. That's why I leave my phone off when I'm not using it and never bring it to a meet with a new provider. Ever. Yes, this results in some missed opportunities but as I said no pussy is worth a record.

Clearly some of you don't work in IT. If you did you'd realize just how little privacy you have when you use things with screens these days, which is why paranoia is the only real option. Maybe some of you don't even know that email, chat, etc, do not have the same legal protections as phone / text records do. All the police have to do is request email records and some companies will provide it without a subpoena. Not all, but some. How much are you willing to bet that yours will protect your interests over theirs?

Educate yourself on online privacy. Use a VPN, open an email account from it, and never open that account without the VPN. Make sure your VPN does not log sessions or data. Privateinternetaccess is the only VPN I know of that has had this tested. Police subpoenaed them for records in a case and all they could provide was user account information. They don't log where you go or what you do. Guess how I access this site?

From what little I've found, while LE do have some leniency to monitor texts, for them to be admissible they must either have a warrant or the cell most be associated with an ongoing investigation. Since there are at least several million cell phones in the vicinity of any major city, LE must decide how to allocate their resources.

Most stings I've read about either involve the streets or large, organized operations with many providers. For LE to use text as a means to target individual providers and / or hobbyists is probably not worth it, or at least that's been my experience. Again, I'd love someone with a legal background to offer a more informed perspective.

In it the end, I think the legal part of this is a moot point. If you are arrested, whether you are convicted or not will no longer be the issue. Every background check I do on people tells me when they have been arrested (and if convicted), but I see many arrests without convictions and assume they've been up to something nefarious. If you depend on a background check for a job or to rent a place, I'd expect they'd assume the same.

That ad looks highly suspect to me. The location listed is 'your place' and a cashapp or venmo deposit is required for outcall, which is a common tactic of scammers.

My two cents is that if you are doing something illegal and the authorities want to catch you they absolutely will. However, if you are careful and discreet it's a lot of time and effort on their part. Luckily for us they often don't have that much time and effort and are for the most part lazy. I'm as careful as I can be in all aspects. When picking up a street gal I pull down the side road and wait, if she jumps in we go. If she wants the window rolled down I drive off. If she walks by I drive off. I treat the online gals the same. No matter what there is risk but all we can do is know that and minimize it. It's kinda like freeway speeding at 8 miles over vs. 25 over. Both can get you a ticket. One is much more likely. Definitely not a perfect analogy but that's how I look at it.
