Wait, 80% of what requires a deposit? If "escorts", you must be including scammers in that figure. I've only been asked for a deposit once ever, and it was an established pro with a big online presence. Other than that, never. I've seen a few legit ads who were asking, but not many.

What doesn't make sense? It's exactly what you said. The deposit is to deter people who aren't serious / don't show up. You mainly see this with what I consider mid to high end providers. To each his own I guess. The only I way I would use a credit card was if it was prepaid and it was a small amount that I would not be upset if I lost. Other than that I doubt I would give me up my credit card information to a girl.
