I've noticed that addicts take great pains to hide their usage or engage in outright denial. Had a UTR girl that denied until the day she died of an apparent OD. Dealing with another one right now that is supposedly on methadone but has the addict lifestyle and always need money for some contrived BS, which tells me that there is an elephant in the room somewhere / somehow.

Even on methadone they will still seek. Knowingly with the consequences of more possible OD. They can't feel it because it blocks the brain. The ones who actually want to succeed in quiting eventually stop using H and stick with methadone only. But they all do both at first during treatment.
