Almost all hotels have some form of camera security now as insurance companies are pushing for it. The intent of the camera system is to document liability-related incidents but seldom looked at in the absence of some cause. And most camera systems are motion detected. That means passing near one at 2 AM will kick it on to record motion. Six motions showing activity to the same room is suspect and may be sufficient for probable cause for eviction and for a tresspass warning to prevent returning. Also, electronic locks create a record of the number of entries and which card is used if multipled cards are handed out.

In general terms they can only show the frequency of a visit, and if deemed too frequent create suspicion. I ran operations at a large beach resort in the St Pete area which included the security department until I retired 5 years ago. We rarely bothered with the camera except when a guest occured or a pissed off guest complained about noise in an adjoining room. Things like "door opening and closing all night", sex sounds, bed creaking, and general loudness. Like TV used to cover noise. Since that usually involved compensation to the guest we checked the camera and if the statement was true went to the guest and gave a stern warning. Usually they would leave before a formal tresspass occured. Because a cop had to give it and if he saw something suspicious an arrest would occur.

Recent policy changes for Tampa hotels discussed on this forum seem to indicate that maintenance and housekeeping staff are being asked to be more observant and report questionable behavior.
