I can only play during the day. I use Booking.com usually the night before, and am sure to book a spot with free cancellation up until 4:00 that day. I try to check in anywhere from 9- noon or 1:00, with a pre-arranged meeting time with a UTR around 10-11. Sometimes, they'll tell me they don't have rooms ready and checkin is like 3. If they hold to that, I cancel. But most of the time, they'll find a room for me. Extra bonus. If you you frequent 1 property often, they'll almost always accommodate you. And probably upgrade you. If you do have to cancel because they don't have a room, no problem with a regular. If it's a first timer, up to you whether you want to look extra hard for a last minute backup.
