Good points C3 and Mitch. My buddy is a veteran of the game and has had many success all over including Polk believe it or not. He travels a lot for work so he plays all over FL. Just goes to show that you can never be safe. He did is normal cop check via text, but when he got there he should've asked for a hug and squeeze. Great advice from Mitch. I can't believe how many people talk to police for anything. Never, ever, talk to a cop, for any reason. Ever. It's kind of a pisser because you 'do' have to give them some basic info, like name and where you live (the stuff on your driver's license). From there, it's very easy to keep answering their questions when you don't have to, particularly when they put on their "Officer Friendly" routine. I actually had one tell me we were just a couple of guys talking. My response was, "Oh, so you're my buddy, now? We going to go hang out in a bar and have a few beers, too? As you might imagine, he didn't like that.

Even more confounding is how so many actually consent to a search of their vehicle, particularly when they know they've got something illegal inside. I just can't figure that one out. Who the hell thinks it's okay to have a stranger rooting through their car? Even then, if they really want to search a vehicle, all they have to do is call in a K9 unit and get the dog to 'alert'.

It's worth mentioning that cops get a real case of the ass when you assert your constitutional rights so you will be cited for whatever lame-ass reason (I. E. , "probably cause") they pulled you over for, be it failure to use a turn signal, dim license plate light, failure to come to a complete stop behind white line, etc.
