Based on the threads below I figured I'd relate my personal experience with hsv2. I'm an SA guy. I met up with a hot lady back in May. (1) standard HSV testing looks for antibodies against the virus, not the virus itself.

(2) 50 to 80 percent of adults are infected with HSV-1 (mostly oral). By age 50 90% of adults have been exposed to the virus.

(3) about 2/3 of people who are infected and show up as have positive on tests never experience cold sores or any other signs they are infected.

I think it's highly likely that she had no idea she had the virus, and if so, she probably has a very low probability of shedding it and interesting a sex or make out partner.

HSV-1 or HSV-2 ? There is a huge difference. Almost everyone has HSV-1. Most people were born with it, or get it, and never even know. You can get HSV-1 from a relative when they kiss you on the cheek as a kid, FYI.
