I know most of the SB are looking for an allowance but I have zero intention of going that route. So, is it best to make them think you're planning on this? Also, listed myself as "Married but Looking" but later wondered if I made a rookie mistake with that.

Appreciate the patience as I try to work through posting links after blocked. SA does, in fact, use a separate thread link for the messages and the SB profile. I am the original poster of the hotels.com trick. Check my history for full details. Hotels handle incidentals holds like a rental car company does at check-in. They run an authorization but do not charge. I have never had an incidental hold show up as a charge and then credit on my bank statement. I stay at national chains (choice, Hilton, marriot, IHG). I can't speak to motels or mom and pop chains but the larger chains do not charge your card and then reverse it. IMO that would make little sense. Think of all the guests at these chains on a monthly basis and then now think of the month end accounting nightmare that would ensue if they charge someone on Monday for unaccrued incidentals and then reverse it when they check out on Friday for instance. Think of that audit trail after 2-3 thousand guests. I think the clerk you were talking with was misinformed. Call about 10 or so chains and ask them the process and how incidentals are handled. My thought here is the clerk you spoke with is just misinformed.

This sounds very promising. Thanks so much for expanding on your previous post. What you're saying makes perfect sense and to add that each additional "charge" by hotel would incur a processing fee by the cc company. I will do some checking with potential hotels to complete the process. Thanks again and stay safe.
