3 Waterford Township Massage Parlors Raided, Shut Down For Selling Sex

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Federal, state, and local authorities have shut down three Oakland County businesses for allegedly selling sex.

Detectives and agents from the Waterford Police Department -- together with U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security and Michigan Corrections Department raided a trio of massage parlors Wednesday afternoon, after determining women working at the offices were offering sexual services for money, police annoucned Friday.

None of the businesses -- identified as Sun Spa on W. Huron Rd., Massage Oasis on Highland Rd. and Brownstone Therapy on Airport Rd. -- had a license to operate. In fact, police said, none of them had ever applied for a license.

"There is no place in Waterford Township for this type of criminal activity," said Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood, in a statement. "Even when it occurs behind closed doors, sex for money is still prostitution and we will use all legal avenues to eradicate this type of crime from our community."

The proprietor/manager at each location was issued a violation for operating a massage establishment without a license, but no information was released regarding any arrests.

Police said federal agents were on site to assist with any potential forced prostitution and/or human trafficking issues.
