Go to the top right hand corner of the app you will see 3 dots, press them a window will appear hit mute notifications.

You can shut it down in settings quicky. Modify settings so it does not integrate I have used both Talkatone is more discrete.

I don't know about text free, but I use google voice. I am able to turn on and off the forwarding to my phone, plus I can get email when I get a voice mail. Plus its super easy to block and unblock numbers if the girls start calling to much.
