Does anyone remember this one from last fall? A former VCU student turned NYC model / dope fiend, she returned to Richmond to get away from the needle and work the SB scene. I had my vasectomy done about 3 years ago at 48. It couldn't have been easier.

I did some research and ended up going with a "no needle, no scalpel" guy; a urologist / surgeon who specializes in vasectomies as well as reversing them. I did it on a Friday, so I would have the weekend to recover. He had me wash the boys with Hibiclens (Over the counter anti-bacterial liquid soap) a couple of times before the procedure, and shave the front of my balls (no big noticeable bald patch). I went in, pulled down my pants (didn't even take them off, he said it's easier in the end to just pull them up again), sat in his reclining chair. A couple of those hi-pressure "injections" of anesthetic to the lads and one very small, hardly noticeable small puncture later, (about 10-15 min) I was done. Tiny band-aid to cover the wound, no stitches, no nothing. Easily hideable from a Ms.

Doc gave me a prescription for Vicodin which I never even filled.

Spent the weekend taking it easy, with an occasional ice pack on my balls. I went to work Monday, and it began to feel a little painful from walking around the office. I called and told the Dr. About it, he said to try Ibuprofin. Worked like a charm. Couple of days of that, and I was like new again.

Went back 6 or 8 weeks later for the sperm test, all clear.

I highly recommend finding someone who specializes in the no needle, no scalpel type of procedure. My insurance even covered it 100%. Didn't cost me a dime.

Overall, if you need to get this done on the sly, in my opinion this is the way to go. I didn't need to, but it would have been super easy to hide the fact that I'd had anything done.

Whether or not I believed her would depend on how she told me. If she told me in a manner that demonstrated some concern for me since she would have potentially exposed me to the STD, then I'd be more likely to believe her. If she didn't, I'd ask to see the test results "before contacting my doctor" - her response (or lack of it) to that request would confirm the suspicions, or not.

Had mine almost 30 years ago, after my 3rd child was born. Recovery time, discomfort level and visible signs (swelling, visible scars, etc.) vary a good deal from guy to guy. I had minimal swelling and only a day of any significant discomfort, though I was ginger in my movements and went commando under lose pants for a week after using a jockstrap the first couple days.

Keep in mind: they shave you around the suture sites, so if you don't normally shave your balls the work will be noticeable for a while after it's done, and if you do shave, the scars will be red and plainly visible for at least 2-3 weeks. Hiding it from a SO would be pretty difficult unless your friend is in the "we never see each other naked" sub-species of marriage. If your friend is part of that last camp, it might be doable - he may need to come up with an, "I had an accident at work and got racked really hard so my balls are sore" line of BS for the SO. Otherwise, unless the SO takes a business trip or vacation, your friend is unlikely to be successful at hiding it.

Oh, one other thing: Some studies have shown that men who have a vasectomy in their relatively early years (mine was at 34) are *much* more likely to experience significant ED, and somewhat more likely to experience prostate enlargement and related urinary issues, in their 50's and beyond. I can personally confirm both. The former of these problems is exacerbated by smoking and/or alcohol ("whiskey dick") so if your friend is under 40 or so, especially if he smokes and/or drinks considerably, he should consider the long-term potential for problems he may not want to have. Not to discount the kind of problem a preggers 20-something SB would be for his marriage, of course...

Not to mention a big increase in the number of "platonic only" girls in the 18-24 age range. These girls are getting fed a lot of propaganda about what a SB is, and while that sort of situation may be more common in LA or NYC, this is still just a small southern bible-belt town; the number of men with the kind of spendable cash and interests to match that kind of girl is very small, and that number is made smaller still by the fact that discretion (from wifey, from friends and co-workers, from fellow church-members, etc.) and an arm-candy girl don't go together.
